New UCSD Visual Arts faculty Brian Cross ( Photographer, director/cinematographer, book author) kicks off the Filmatic Festival with his brave ideas about the future of filmmaking and film-going. Through the lens of hiphop, Cross orients a number of conversations, multi-generational interchanges, rhythmic confluences that weave through the diaspora of African musical traditions in the Americas. Party on with a live Vmix performance by one of the original turntablists, J. Rocc (founder of the Beat Junkies) with video by Cross.
